It has been revealed that David Bowie was urinated upon by a baby during the filming of Labyrinth.
The late musician, who played the Goblin King in the film, was unfortunately weed upon by the child his character kidnaps, the baby's father told Press Association.
Brian Froud, who was the movie’s designer, volunteered his own newborn child to play Sarah’s baby brother in the 1986 film. Brian designed his son some custom made slimline nappies, as regular sized ones “would have got in the way of the look”. Sadly, Brian admits, they were “useless.”
“The first thing that Toby did when he met David Bowie in the first shot was pee all over him,” said Brian. He added, “David took it all in good part.”
Brian’s wife, Wendy Froud, also worked on-set as the Creative Workshop Artist. Brian added that she, too, helped Bowie handle the baby on-set.
“My wife Wendy was actually, strangely enough, on her knees out of shot, just at crotch-level of David, in case he dropped the baby, ready to catch him,” he explained.
Brian admitted the couple’s first meeting with Bowie was “rather scary but so magical”: “We were in his dressing room and it was about three or four days before we started the film, and we had made him a little bone flute as a gift.
“He just took it and he just leapt up on to the dressing table, hunkered down and played a wonderful little spooky tune on the flute. He was very Pan-like.”
The designer has also stated that he would like the film to be re-created as a stage musical to mark the movie’s 30th anniversary. “I just feel it's an absolute gift to do it on stage. People would come and sing the songs, and dress up I think.”
Jennifer Connelly, who starred as teenager Sarah, paid tribute to Bowie in an interview for the 30th anniversary Blu-ray edition.
